About This Spot

Restaurante La Vaca Azul sits quietly on Calle Requena, just steps from the sea in El Cotillo. There’s a gentle ease that welcomes you here—the kind of place where the sound of waves mingles with the soft clinking of glasses and the occasional breeze rustling the blue-and-white decor. It’s not just a meal, but a moment to savor the rhythm of this fishing village, where time seems to slow enough for the sea air to settle in.

Inside, the ambiance strikes a balance between casual comfort and thoughtful attention to detail. The upper terrace, with its inviting maritime hues, catches the light in a way that feels both refreshing and unpretentious. Whether you settle by the window facing the ocean or on the veranda catching the breeze, there’s a quiet pleasure in watching the local life drift by as plates arrive.

The kitchen quietly crafts seafood dishes that reflect the freshness of the nearby waters, often arriving at the table with a warmth that suggests genuine care. From the gentle char on grilled prawns to delicate touches of mojo verde and fresh tomato chutney, the flavors invite you to discover the subtle charm of Canarian coastal cooking. Paellas, pulpo, and fish prepared in traditional ways are meant to be enjoyed unhurried, paired with a glass of sangria or a local favorite like barraquito.

This is a place where families find comfort and visitors find a connection to the local sea and its bounty. The careful balance of quick, attentive service and an inviting atmosphere encourages you to linger, to talk, and to watch the sun dip closer to the horizon. The experience is less about spectacle and more about simply belonging, even if just for a few hours.

La Vaca Azul is not just a restaurant—it’s a quiet celebration of place, where the sea’s generosity is offered with warmth, and every visit feels a little like coming home.

We came here for lunch, and it was okay overall. Nothing spectacular, but it was nice to sit on the veranda and enjoy the breeze. The upper level is decorated in blue and white, which looks great and adds a pleasant vibe. We had fresh fish, which was fine—not bad, but not particularly memorable either. Hard to say whether it was the fish itself or the preparation. The salad was nicely presented, the croquetas were okay. The mango panna cotta was tasty, while the cheesecake was average.

staff are lovely and serve everything very fast. they must have got some magic at the kitchen. we ordered fish of the day and chiperones, and got it surprisingly super quick. the food was fantastic, absolutely delicious.

Amazing atmosphere, food & service. We enjoyed the food, grilled octopus, goat stew & paellas were so tasteful. Kids menu is also good and well priced!

In El Cotillo, nice place right on seaside. We went for lunch and got a great table facing the seaside. Beautiful location and nice option in this area, and try to get a good table on the terrace. But, it seems to be pricing up for tourists, the moderately sized local fish was priced at 51 Euros for us, which is high compared to other seafood places in the area.

Absolutely perfect and so tasty and also visual was nice. We had tuna steak and grilled squid, and I can say that it was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. I recommend, but if you have plan to go there make a reservation ;)

Had a very nice dinner here. They offer two vegetarian dishes that are extra listed as being without meat which was very nice. The tatin was very good, we were informed that it might take a while cause they make it fresh. The steak was good as well, ordered it medium but it arrived more like medium-rare. That wad totally fine though cause the quality of the product was very good and with the pepper sauce (big recommendation here) made a good dinner meal. Definitely try to make a reservation. We were lucky to get a table spontaneous but the waiter downstairs told us it was the only one available for walk ins this evening

We had lunch here on a day out in El Cotillo. We got there as it opened and were given an amazing table overlooking the sea. The food was exceptional and given the quality very good value. The menu is primarily seafood, so I’m not sure why it’s called The Blue Cow

We loved La Vaca Azul so much we ended up going twice during our stay in El Cotillo! On our first visit, my partner spoke in Spanish to one of the lovely staff members (I don’t speak Spanish) and mentioned that he was planning to propose to me that evening. He asked if we could have a table for dinner after the proposal, but unfortunately they were fully booked. Instead, the kind woman suggested we come the following evening – and when we did, they had set up a beautiful table for us, making the night truly memorable. We shared a paella for two (highly recommend – perfectly cooked and full of flavour), and we loved it so much that two days later we returned for the fish of the day, which was equally delicious. Fantastic food, a gorgeous setting and staff who go above and beyond – a place we’ll never forget. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
